UCLA gymnast and Olympic gold and silver medalist Madison Kocian underwent surgery on her shoulder in August to repair a torn labrum.
Kocian suffered the injury at the 2016 Olympic Trials in San Jose, Calif. a little over a year ago. She competed at the Olympics in Rio, then went on tour around the country and immediately went straight into training with UCLA gymnastics, where she competed a full season this past winter and spring. This left no time for Kocian to get the surgery she needed for her shoulder until recently.
Kocian took the summer off to relax, go on vacation with her family in Hawaii and spend time with friends and loved ones.
Now that training has begun in Yates gym for the upcoming gymnastics season, Kocian has returned with a repaired shoulder.
Shown in a recent snapchat on the UCLA Gymnastics’ account, Kocian was standing in between a couple of other gymnasts in a matching tank top, wearing a sling on her left arm. She is expected to make a full recovery, however, the estimated time of return to the sport has not yet been determined.
