Former UCLA Bruin, Kristina Comforte, has been hired as the new Associate Head Coach of UCLA Gymnastics under the newly appointed Head Coach, Chris Waller.
Comforte graduated from UCLA in 2010 and competed as a gymnast from 2006-2008. Prior to UCLA, Comforte served on the U.S. National Team for three years.
After retiring from gymnastics due to injury during her senior year, Comforte became an undergraduate assistant coach for the team and helped them to win a national championship title in 2010. She then went on to pursue other coaching duties, including coaching vault and floor at the University of Illinois.
While coaching at Illinois, she helped 2019 senior Brielle Nguyen transfer to UCLA. Without her, Nguyen might never have transferred. “We have Kristina to thank for Brielle,” said former UCLA Head Coach, Valorie Kondos-Field at this year’s senior meet.
Comforte also has experience with choreography, which is good news for the Bruins. She was the main choreographer for Illinois in 2017.
We look forward to having her back in the Bruin family and can’t wait to see what she does with the team!
