UCLA announced the rest of the new coaching staff this week. BJ Das has been hired as a choreographer, and former volunteer assistant coach, Dom Palange, has been hired as an assistant coach, where his responsibilities will mostly include coaching vault and floor.
On the heels of this news, it is with a heavy heart that we report to you that Randy Lane has officially left UCLA and will no longer be a part of their gymnastics program.
Lane coached at UCLA on and off since 1992, where he was hired under then newly appointed head coach Valorie Kondos-Field. He spent three stints at the university in Westwood; his final stint beginning in 2012.
The reason for Lane’s departure from the program is publicly unknown and UCLA Gym Source asks that fans respect his privacy during this time.
While the news regarding Lane’s departure has been kept relatively mum, the girls on the team have been expressing their enthusiasm over the new coaching staff via their social media accounts.
Former associate head coach, Chris Waller, was appointed as the new head coach about a month ago.
It’s officially a new era at UCLA Gymnastics and it will be interesting to see how this new team works together.
